Writing letters to the editor is much like writing to lawmakers: write on just one topic, keep it short and pithy. Follow the newspaper's rules for publication. After you send your letter, follow up if it has not been published after a set period of time (longer if the publication is weekly than if it is daily). Send a thank-you if your letter is published.

Commentary Policies for Submissions: explains the difference between a letter to the editor and a guest commentary, states what information must be included (identifying information, photo for guest commentary, etc.).
To submit a commentary: "The deadline is 5 pm on Tuesdays prior to the next Monday publication date, with the exception of weeks in which publishing days may be affected by holidays.
